O&M Peer Group Explores the San Antonio Botanical Garden

Our Orientation & Mobility (O&M) peer group recently enjoyed a sensory-filled outing at the San Antonio Botanical Garden.

With white canes in hand, participants navigated the garden’s winding paths, shaded areas, and vibrant plants. They strolled through the rose garden, admired orchids, and soaked in the soothing sounds of waterfalls. Along the way, they discovered colorful art pieces and relaxed under the shade of a willow tree.

Each person experienced the garden in their own special way—whether by touching the leaves, taking in the scents of blooming flowers, or listening to the birds in the trees.

“This was my first time visiting, and I loved it,” said James Tatum, a Vibrant Works team member. “The sounds, the smells—you get a clear vision in your mind when you feel the flowers.”

“The soft petals were fabulous,” added Tanya Ingram. “As I touched them, I could see them in my head. I could imagine it all.”

Everyone left feeling proud, more independent, and eager to return with their families.
